Marianna - If you enjoyed Empire Falls, then I strongly suggest you try Nobody's Fool as well (also by Russo). It has a slightly lighter-hearted plot but nevertheless illuminates with pinpoint accuracy many themes present in the blue-collar heartache of a small and dying town. I love Russo's work not only for the accuracy and tenderness of his portrayals, and the vividness of his life-like characters, but the fact that he takes certain struggles that are so every-day as to be usually overlooked by those seeking high and noble themes, and places them at the forefront of his novels. Enjoy...

This blog was once a critical role in the education of our honors class. While HP101 remains without doubt a dubious rement of early exposure to the "challenges" of honors courses, it critically provided a foundation for a regular discussion in which all class members participated. While the topics that once (and still do in the archives) graced the web space of this domain ranged from heated arguments to intellectual comments on required reads. In addition, the requirment to particpated in this blog was issued in tandem with requirements for each to upkeep our own independent blogs. For some of us, this notion of upkeeping an individual blog has not been abandoned and has lead to numerous fruitful discussions beyond the classroom.
I propose then that as we embark upon our final year of study at Clarkson, that any of you whom may glance upon this abonded space may be inclined to once again grace it with your thoughts. If arguments were to erupt here again perhaps some of the unity of our class might be rekindled intime to head our separate ways with fresh memories. So, with a hint of urgency, I plea with you my class mates to continue to contribute the existance of this journal. If you can not comply with such a request it will be dazzled only with the dull words of my own mind and hand.

Perhaps it is time to further ensure that this blog does not loose all vitality. A mentioned in previous post I intend to prevent form entering into a cycle of rapid decay, or in fact any sort of decay.
The last two post dealt with lack of writting oreinted courses in Fall 2003. Gratefully this semester will be quite the opposite in nature. I am greatly looking forward to the challange of writting a 30 page paper for HP201 as well practicing writting essays for the MCAT. In HP201 the five books to be read seem enlightening and will likely lead to the incubation of novel thoughts and ideas. Perhaps the very strength of my blog entries will grow with the requirement of indepth thinking and writing. This actually a goal of this semester: to write more frequent and thought provoking blog entries. Somehow last semester I vereed away from doing such, which I greatly regret.
Well tis time for song and praise...
